Volland, Kansas is a bygone farming town which was started in the late 1800s and built against the once thriving railroad. The towering brick old store can be seen in the middle of miles of farmland as one approaches on the old two-lane highway.

It is a startling sight to come upon this bright red; the town now has 3 or 4 homes. "Volland, a country post office in Wabaunsee county, is located in Washington township on the Chicago, Rock Island, Pacific R. R., 8 miles from Alma, the county seat, it has a general store and telegraph and express offices. The population in 1910 was 26."
